Our Challenge

FAIR Fund has been selected as one of a select few nonprofits invited to participate in the international online competition of GlobalGiving.com! We need your help to reach our goal of raising $25,000 by December 21—which will win us $5,000!

FAIR Fund and Global Giving

GlobalGiving is featuring FAIR Fund's campaign, Safe Passage: Empowering Girls to Survive Sex Trafficking. By simply visiting our page and posting your support for teen survivors of human trafficking you will increase FAIR Fund's ranking and visibility on Global Giving. With your help, over 25,000 people could join our cause to stop youth trafficking!

Success Stories

Angela"When I came here, I didn’t have anything. No food, no documents, no clothes but what was on my back. I didn’t know anyone and I was so afraid that the man who took me was going to find me again. Thank goodness the police officer and local church I had run to called FAIR Fund. This woman came immediately – like less than 30 minutes later – to help me and brought clothes, food, and offered me a place to say in their secure hotel location. Only three months later, I had a job, and my own apartment. I make jewelry at with FAIR Fund twice a week, too. I love making jewelry and seeing people buy it all over D.C. FAIR Fund is family to me."
- Angela*, 18, Washington, D.C.

Anglela* and all 200 girls we supported in 2009 in our intensive aftercare program for girl survivors needed money for transportation, food, a job, counseling, a place to stay, and constant social support. They also depend on our staff’s consistent caring and dedication. That is what Safe Passage: Empowering Girls to Survive Sex Trafficking is all about and why we need you to make sure our campaign raises $25,000, which will turn into $30,000. That is enough support to help us provide comprehensive education and outreach to hundreds of girls like Angela.

Samantha"Samantha" is a 19-year-old Roma girl. At age 13, her father passed away leaving her mother and siblings alone and undocumented. Her mother began to beat her, and after some time she began to spend nights away from home to avoid the abuse.  At 14, her mother sold her to a local man for approximately $200. She was taken from Hungary to Macedonia and eventually Serbia where she was sold into a brothel. For three years, Samantha was forced to have sex with men up to 15 times a night. Her traffickers threatened her life daily. At 17, Samantha was rescued by a local partner agency and placed in a safe shelter. She joined FAIR Fund’s art therapy and financial literacy program at age 18, and has saved most of what she has earned selling her handmade jewelry. In 2009, Samantha used her jewelry sales earnings to help pay for an apartment and she has begun to speak out about her experiences in surviving human trafficking.

Marina"Marina" is 17 years old and has spent her whole life in the state orphanages of Russia. She is currently enrolled in school to be a hairdresser, but after being pushed out of the orphanage, she was lost and had no idea how to take care of herself, find a job, or pay bills. She had nowhere to go and was afraid she was going to have to turn to prostitution to stay alive. In February 2009, Marina joined a small group of girls at the ROOF center to learn how to find a job and stay safe from exploitative job offers and false marriages, both potential forms of human trafficking. Marina is an excellent designer. She would like to save the money she earns to start her own hairdressing business next year. She loves working with black glass and red amber.

Agnes "Agnes" has spent much of her young life trying to survive as a street child in Uganda. After her parents died from what she thinks was AIDS, she began to beg on the streets and was lured by a local woman into her house to work as a domestic helper. She was not allowed to go to school and never saw a penny of the money she supposedly earned. Agnes eventually ran away and was found by a local outreach team, UYDEL, who has recently partnered with FAIR Fund to assist trafficked and high-risk girls. In May 2009, Agnes joined JewelGirls, where she learns alongside other girls to create handmade paper beads in the tradition of Ugandan art. Agnes now earns her own income through JewelGirls and wants to be self-sufficient and have her own family. She loves working with the color pink, attending the life-skills workshops, and works 6 hours a week on her art.
